Let me preface today’s post by saying that I totally failed on taking pictures of anything except cakes. Oops. Now, on with the day…
Once again, I had my alarm set to go off around 8:30 this morning, but I ended up not getting up until around 9. I wasn’t panicked because I knew I didn’t have to leave home until around 12:45pm for the wedding delivery and that gave me plenty of time to do all I needed to do.
But when my feet hit the floor, I was go-go-go until I sprinted out the door.
First, I finished up this Caterpillar Cake/Cupcakes and took pics of it. I finished it probably around 10:30am. Around 11:00, I let my son Joshua deliver it to the customer for me.
Immediately after that, I mixed up the ingredients for the bread pudding and got 3 pans of it ready to go into the oven (totally forgot to take a single picture of my bread pudding 🙁 ). I also made the Bourbon sauce for it and got it to simmering while my son Caleb made me a batch of Cream Cheese Buttercream so I could decorate the wedding cake.
Next I got the chilled wedding cake tiers out of the frig and had Caleb make me some frosting.
Remember, I baked all of my cakes on Thursday and filled and crumb coated them all. The ones I delivered Friday were kept in the frig, but these wedding cake tiers had been in the freezer Thursday night, then the frig Friday night so they were cold, but thawed for me to decorate.
In reality, I could’ve kept them all in the frig and they’d have still been perfect, but I didn’t have quite enough room to have them all refrigerated, so I chose to freeze the ones that were going to be used last and when I took the Friday cakes out of the frig Friday, I moved the Saturday cakes from the freezer to frig.
Too much cake info? Sorry!
Okay, okay… back to my day. I decorated the wedding cake, which took less than an hour (it was rustic/messy buttercream), and took all the bread pudding out of the ovens and got them wrapped up and ready to go. I also poured the bread pudding sauce into a travel container… then I changed clothes and was ready to roll.
Around 12:50 I called my Mama to come pick me up – she was going with me on wedding cake delivery today and she offered to drive her car because it uses a lot less gas than my Excursion. Granted, it’s a little trickier to transport cakes in her car, but today’s wedding cake was small, so it was doable.
Anywho – we made the 45 minute drive to Natchez, set up the wedding cake, then I stopped off at France Consulting and picked up my dead hard drive (even Casey – my usual computer hero – couldn’t salvage anything from my hard drive this time… I really broke it good), then stopped by a potential customer’s house for a quick meeting and to see her wedding cake ideas, then finally….. me & Mama set off to find somewhere to eat.
It’s at this point that I realize I haven’t eaten all.day.long… and it’s um, 3:25pm. Oy!! So we found an little hole-in-the-wall restaurant and had some amazing food! I wish I had taken a pic of us together or the place where we were or anything… I was just too hungry to think of anything except scarfing down some shrimp & fries!!
I feel like the rest of my day was pretty plain, so I’ll try to be brief. After eating, we stopped by Walmart, then Sonic for Oreo Blasts, then we headed home! By then it was probably around 5:15!? Let me clarify… being with my Mama is not plain or boring … it’s always lots of laughs and fun to hang out with her which is why I asked her to go with me, but nothing that feels all that ‘blog-worthy’.
Before getting all the way to my house, we stopped by my parents’ old house (my Daddy was there working) and dropped off food for him and my son who had been there cleaning up all day, then we stopped at my house and unloaded my groceries, then I went on over to my parents’ current house to help them do a little computer work. That took maybe an hour and finally, I was home!!!!!
When I got here, I tried to do work on my laptop but as it turns out, the new hard drive that Dell sent me is also a dud, so I’m back to being without a laptop and blogging on my Surface. Granted, I absolutely love my Surface and I’m so grateful to have it as a backup for blogging and to use it when I’m traveling, but it’s not ideal for full-time work. Especially not when I”m used to a huge 17″ screen and full size keyboard and touch pad.
Update – before publishing this, my son did some magic and put an old working hard-drive into the shell of my laptop and while it doesn’t have all of my “stuff” on it – I can use it for blogging and that makes my life SO much easier! I also added pics of my laptop (on the left) next to my Surface (on the right) …can you see the size difference? It’s definitely an adjustment for me when I have to blog on the Surface!!
It’s now 9:51pm and I’m just sitting on the couch blogging and editing pics from today. The younger kids are already in bed and the older ones are getting showers and headed that way soon. Then maybe I’ll have some snuggle time with the hubby, then get my shower and get some zzz’s!
Happy Saturday Night Ya’ll!!
