Days 4 and 5 of the 31 Days Challenge from TheNester.com. I can’t believe I only got 4 days into the challenge and missed a day. But I do have a good reason…
For this to be my non-cake blog, I sure do find myself talking about cake a lot. After my baking marathon on Thursday, yesterday I spent another 19 hours frosting and filling and decorating all those cakes and cupcakes.
coconut cakes and caramel cakes that didn’t make it into my collage for some reason…
Well… me, my husband, my kids… all of us worked really hard for 3 straight days. My darling husband even stayed up with me til 3 this morning finishing up everything – I could not do what I do without him!
If my count is correct,
I we baked and frosted around 250 cupcakes plus 15 cakes (3 of them were big decorated cakes and 2 were smash cakes). How much frosting does it take to do all that? More than I want to talk about. I’m still spinning from it all.
By the time we wrapped up around 3am, I just couldn’t bring myself to sit down and write – even though I really did think about it and want to. But my mind & body wouldn’t cooperate with my “want to”.
I really did think about it though… in my mind I was typing as I dozed off to sleep…. haha!
That was pretty much my whole day. I finished all the cakes and gathered together supplies for the bake sale, then got a shower and around 3:30am, I finally drifted off to sleep.
Therefore, when my alarm clock sounded bright and early at 7am, I was not ready to be awake. At. All.
On the flip-side, I was super excited about doing the bake sale and raising money for missionaries. I think it’s an amazing thing to see people surrender their lives to Christ and I’m always eager to support them in any way I can!
I must say (lest anyone get the wrong idea)… I did not do the bake sale all by myself. Several ladies from our church baked things and brought them and a few had donated money to me because they couldn’t bake this week but wanted to contribute, so I took that money, bought extra ingredients and baked for them too.
It was a voluntary thing on my part and I was happy to do it, but I could not have pulled off today without the help of many, many other people! There were also several church members who came and helped at the sale today… it was a group effort all around!
At the end of it all, I’m thrilled to report that our bake sale was a big success! We exceeded our expectations for how much money we raised and God really blessed us with a great day. I really wish I had gotten pics – I took my camera, but got there and realized I did not have an SD card 🙁 .
Funny thing… on the way home from the bake sale Noah (8yo) asks, “Mommy, can I bake a cake for church tomorrow?”
After I got home and my Mama offered to deliver my very last cake for me, I crashed on the couch. That was the best 3 hour nap I’ve had in ages… except I woke up with a headache (always happens when I nap).
Tonight hubby and I are tag-team cooking supper (mostly him – I’m reading the recipe to him from the bar and occasionally stirring when he asks….) and getting all the kids rotated through the bath for church tomorrow and just trying to hang on until bed time.
Tomorrow is scheduled to be another exciting but very busy day. I’m gonna finish up an episode of Top Chef that I started, then I’m gonna get to bed early (it’s sad that 10pm is “early” for me) so I can hit the floor bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (as my Mama always says).
