Day 15 of the 31 Days Challenge from TheNester.com.
First, let me say that I’m feeling pretty nervous about writing tonight. After the overwhelming response to yesterday’s post (thank you all SO much!), today’s writing will seem quite hum-drum.
But I am determined to do my very best to post each and every day for 31 days – so I’m pressing on!
After talking about how errands ruin our homeschool days (twice last week), I really hoped this week would be more normal.
No such luck. Or at least not yet. Yesterday and today were just busy, busy, busy.
I’ll start by telling you about yesterday. It was Columbus Day, which I planned to not observe and just plug right on through our school day.
But Sunday my kids realized that their cousins didn’t have (public) school on Monday and asked if the kids could please, please, please spend the night with us. Since my sister had to work and our kids don’t get lots of time together during the school year, I said yes.
I’m really glad I did! They had a great day together – first doing some work at our church with my brother. Then they spent the day playing on the Slip ‘N Slide (so sad to me that it’s hot enough for that in October), hiking on the creek, and of course, playing some Mine Craft.
Sarah and Addison (my niece) played dress-up and card games and did some other “girly” things too 😉 I wish I had pics, but I was too busy working on a cake…
Isn’t it cute? I just love pumpkins! I love all things “Fall” actually.
Anyway, it was a busy, but fun day and when all was said and done, the kids passed out before bedtime (which is always good).
Now, back to today.
Instead of staying home and doing school… (you guys probably think we have no routine at all), all six kids had appointments for dental cleanings.
And if you’re wondering (I’m sure you’re not)… three kids had zero cavities, one child had a pre-cavity, one child had one cavity and one child had 3 cavities (way in the back between teeth!?… it seems we don’t floss enough or reach far enough back in our big mouths). Ugh.
After that, we did some shopping and errands and trying to steal Reese’s… ha! He snatched that while I was unloading the buggy and had already devoured one cup and was trying to dig out the second one when I caught him. The baby was hungry apparently! But so, so cute… I just love him!
But after paying for the Reese’s and leaving Walmart… by the time we got home, it was time to finish supper (I started it in the crockpot before we left) and straighten up the house.
The day wasn’t wasted, but we’re once again not quite on track with our school schedule this week. I guess it’s a good thing I am the one who makes (and gets to change) the schedule!
Tonight after we had folded and put away the 5+ loads of laundry I mentioned yesterday, eaten supper and cleaned up the main two “living” rooms of our house, Richy and I sent the kids to bed and we enjoyed some “us” time.
We ate Chips Ahoy! with ice cold milk and watched NCIS while snuggled up on the couch. A very good way to end my day 🙂
What’s your favorite way to wind down and relax in the evenings?
