Day 10 and 11 of the 31 Days Challenge from TheNester.com.
How in the world did I miss a day of journaling again? Well, I sort of know. This week turned out to be a lot like last week… extremely busy and crazy. I think I’m seeing a pattern in my life. Thursdays and Fridays are nuts.
Some unexpected things popped up along with all of my “normal” crazy and that’s just a combination for disaster (and lack of sleep). This is the second night in a row that I’m climbing into bed after 1am.
Yesterday I had to bake all of my cakes for orders and two of them had to be well on their way to decorated before I went to bed. I was also trying to stay on track with our schoolwork (which I mostly did) and not acquire any massive piles or dishes or laundry.
That’s a lot. Oh and we had a family dinner “out” with my uncle who is visiting from Colorado. That was another unplanned thing but something I really wanted to do.
How amazing is our family? This photo includes my parents, my aunt and uncle (my Mama’s brother and sister), all three of my siblings plus spouses and all eleven grandchildren (plus both of my sisters-in-law are pregnant).
Anywho… after we got home from the restaurant, I got a majority of what I wanted to do done, then hit the sack somewhere between 1 and 2 am. Only to have my alarm go off at 7am because today (Friday) we had a field trip with our homeschool group!
That’s another reason I worked so late the night before – I knew a huge block of my Friday was going to be unavailable for cake work because of our field trip.
So we loaded up and took off to see a glass-blowing demonstration today. It was lots of fun and the kids learned some really cool stuff. I was also really proud of Joshua (my oldest) because he correctly answered several of the questions that were asked during the demonstration.
The gentleman did the glass-blowing at a shop behind his house and he also had a really cool “collection” of real birds. Collection might be the wrong word, but he had this little mini bird zoo… with quails and parrots and parakeets and anyway… my kids loved it!
I was a little sad that we couldn’t stay for the entire outing – there was also a picnic then a visit to a local history museum but because of my cake orders, we had to come on home after the first part.
Normally I’d have just not booked up on a day when there was a field trip but this was a situation where I had already committed to do the cakes before I knew about the outing… oh well.
After we got home, I put finishing touches on the cakes then delivered them, grabbed a few things at the grocery store, then came home to… you guessed it…. Do.More.Cake.
But my first ones turned out cute, huh? How about those marshmallows dipped in candy melts then with the Tootsie Roll top… they’re “bottles of fingernail polish” to go with the pampering/make-up cake 🙂
It’s now 1:40 am and the cakes are mostly done and now I’m going to try to sleep… probably a little late in the morning, then finish those cakes and deliver them. We also have a house-warming party at my brother’s house and I need to cook for it and I need to cook for lunch at church on Sunday.
One day my life will slow down. I’m sure of it. It just has to. Right?
