Day 7 of the 31 Days Challenge from TheNester.com. Today was Monday. The end.
Not really… I usually don’t mind Monday’s so much but today was just blah. I’m not a morning person and today I had to get out of bed and immediately get dressed to leave and make it to an appointment for Sarah almost an hour away.
Not my favorite way to start a day. But the day didn’t turn out all bad.
While waiting in the orthodontist’s office, the kids starting taking silly pics and lip-syncing to the in-office music…. they were pretty funny and had me laughing and trying not to make too much noise in the “group” examination room.
After that we went to the Walmarts for some shopping (had to mark off that hysterical grocery list) and then McDonald’s for lunch.
When we wrapped up there, we moved toward our hometown for Christian’s speech therapy (he goes every Monday). We got back to “our town” about an hour early, so we popped into two of the local thrift/consignment stores and browsed a little and also stopped by my sister’s office to say hi for a minute.
Somewhere in there I started getting a headache. And sadly, it only got worse with every minute that passed. By the time we picked up Christian from speech, my head was splitting with a migraine and I just wanted to crawl under a rock.
I came home, got into my comfy clothes and curled up on the couch with some ibuprofen while begging the kids to be as quiet as possible. It was not good.
Right here on the couch is where I spent the better part of my afternoon/evening. I did get a little house cleaning done when the meds kicked in but I’ve just felt awful for the past several hours.
My headache is dull now, but still there.
Anyway, if it’s not obvious, we didn’t get any school work done today which really sets a bad tone for the rest of the week. If we start off “behind” on Monday, it usually means the whole week goes downhill from there…
Speaking of that… I have a question for fellow homeschoolers. Does leaving the house ruin your homeschooling routine? If you have errands or appointments… does it throw off your whole day?
I really planned to be home by 3pm and have my kids do school for 2-3 hours, but that didn’t happen. It never seems to happen when we have to go out – even for a little while.
Granted, today might have been easier if I hadn’t developed a migraine, but even on days when I’m feeling great, I have the hardest time getting us “on track” if we don’t get started on that path first thing in the morning.
I’d love to have some input from other homeschoolers. Do you just throw in the towel and call it an “off” day if you have errands to run? Or do you have a plan that allows you to do some or all of your schoolwork, even if it’s interrupted by appointments?
I should note that I live way out in the sticks and probably 90% of my appointments (and my kids’ appointments) are in towns nearly 45 minutes from home. It’s never as easy as a quick little trip and back home… it’s usually half a day or longer to go somewhere and wait and see a doctor and all that. And since the nearest Walmart and many other stores are also 45 minutes from home, I often try to make the most of my gas and do other errands/shopping while I’m out.
So, I’m off to bed now – with some Motrin PM and a big glass of water. Tomorrow will be better 🙂
