You guys… I DID IT!!! I made over $10,000 from blogging in November!! Let’s get to it… the November 2016 Blogging Income Report.
Scroll to the bottom for links to my previous months’ income. Why am I sharing? Well, several months ago, over on Rose Bakes, I wrote a post about how to make money blogging (specifically with a food blog, but most of my info would apply to any blog). Then back in January, I wrote a post on how I made almost $37,000 blogging in 2015. Both of those posts got a lot of attention.
In addition to that, I’m always talking about finances with someone. I love to talk about budgeting, saving, making money online, paying off debt, blogging, etc. And ya’ll… when I say I love it, I mean I love it. I get as excited about that stuff as I do about cake. Haha!
Yes, I am a nerd. (I absolutely love math! ? )
Anyway, since my previous posts about blogging and money and income have been popular and I absolutely love reading other blogger’s income reports, I figured I’d jump on that bandwagon and start sharing my income reports. My hope is to inspire, encourage and help other bloggers increase their income… or help someone else jumpstart a blog so they can start earning online as well!
I also hope that seeing these reports will keep me motivated, inspired and driven to see ways to improve and grow my blog and income.
Now let’s talk about November!!
Let’s go back to the beginning of the year so you’ll understand why this is so huge. Way back in January (January 4, to be exact), I wrote a goals post for 2016. I will be the first to admit that somwhere around April I fell off the wagon and for the most part, stopped actively chasing my goals.
Not to say that I didn’t accomplish anything else off the list for the rest of the year – I just didn’t track it monthly or actively pursue the list.
But a couple of months ago I started having semi-regular “meetings” with my friend Rebekah and she and I would talk “shop”… blogging shop, that is, but still. She challenged me and encouraged me and inspired me.
And in October, I had my biggest income month so far (almost $7000)… and something triggered in my mind about that $10K goal. I really didn’t think I could jump from $7000 to $10,000 in a month or two (my income growth had been steady, but not that steep), but I was genuinely surprised and please at my growth in a year either way.
Then November 1 I published this Eggnog Cheesecake post. And that single recipe is the reason I hit the $10K goal. Okay – not the single reason, but a big part of it. You see, it was a sponsored post that I was paid $190 to do. But then… it went viral. It suddenly became the most popular post I’ve ever written. And the traffic was off the charts (203K pageviews so far). As I’m writing this – 33 days later, in addition to the $190 I was paid to write it, that single post has earned over $2800 in ad income.
Ya’ll. That’s a LOT of money for one blog post. Like a crazy amount… I’m still in shock. And humbled and thankful and just … wow.
And the other major reason I hit my goal? Rebekah. She asked me what I could do to increase my income. She held me accountable weekly. She really pushed me and if it weren’t for her, during the last week of November (when traffic/ad revenue naturally slows down at Thanksgiving and the days following), I’d have come up short on my goal by just a few hundred dollars.
But I didn’t… I hit the goal and a dream came true. I’m so thankful to God for giving me this wonderful job of blogging. I know that everything I am and all that I have comes from Him. I’m thankful for a great recipe and that it was popular. I’m also thankful for Rebekah and having a friend who pushed me and is always there to chat and talk shop!
Okay… so let’s get on to the details!
