Two days ago my second son, Caleb, celebrated his 12th birthday! It was a fun day – no home school, gifts, take-n-bake pizza, and of course cake (which we cut a day late thanks to our not-so-great-week).
The point is… we like to do “big” on birthdays around here 😉
Anywho… the morning after most of the hoopla of Caleb’s birthday – I realized I might be brilliant! Haha!
You see – my now 12 year old son loves waffles. He loves them so much that every time I make a big pile of pancakes, he digs out the old, half-broken waffle maker and makes his own waffles.
When racking my brain for birthday gift ideas for him, I remembered how much fun he had making his own waffles in a hotel at the breakfast bar with the waffle maker that flipped (a Belgian Waffle Maker)… and then it hit me! One of the gifts I could get him was a waffle maker – a Belgian waffle maker!
I know you’re thinking, “A waffle maker for a 12 year old boy? Really?” Yeah. Keep reading.
In addition to the waffle maker, I also got him a gigantic box of Bisquick. Usually we make our pancakes/waffles from scratch, but I thought it would be fun for him to be able to whip some up pretty quick without having to dig out my recipe and all the “from-scratch” ingredients.
Verdict: he absolutely loved it!
He loved it SO much that the morning after his birthday – first thing – he was up making a stack of waffles for the whole family. He doubled the recipe on the box and even had enough leftover to freeze some for breakfast another day.
I might have hit the jackpot here. As long as his love for the waffle-maker continues, I think I have a built-in breakfast maker named Caleb.
How sweet is that? My 12 year old volunteering to make waffles for the whole family… can you say, “Score on for Mommy!”?
Anyway – so just for the record – Happy 12th Birthday Caleb! I pray that you have many more blessed years and that you love waffles for many years to come 😉 !!
So… are you convinced I’m brilliant yet? I bet you’re already dreaming up small appliances that you can buy for your kids so they’ll cook for you, huh?
